It has been go go go here recently, ever since Eric’s parents visited in mid-May. We’ve had pizza nights and brunches with friends, my grandpa’s 80th birthday, wrapping up little E’s school year at the community center and SO many medical appointments.
This week alone, we have a pediatrician visit (and will need to schedule a follow-up; ugh, allergies), my dentist cleaning, two eye appointments (for Eric + me), and physical therapy for the baby.
I’m hoping since Friday is clear on the schedule (right now), the kids + I can get out to a new park somewhere… either early in the morning or if it magically turns cool enough to be outside during the day. It has been in the 90s/100s (!) for days now and far too hot/humid for the baby!
I had a fun phonecall with a faraway friend last night.
This weekend I’m getting breakfast with some friends to work on an event we’re planning for later this summer.
And hopefully getting some good shut-eye now that the baby is going to bed at a reasonable hour! Sleep training has been a smashing success so far. He only takes a few minutes to get to sleep at night now, no tears, and sleeps 9-10 hours straight. We’re all so much happier and better rested, including him! Between that and supplementing with formula, he is a happy little guy this week.
I’m feeling quite uninspired–the heat always makes me feel like I took a sleeping pill–but just wanted to drop in briefly to chat about our week. That’s how habits are formed, right?
xx
PS: I was thinking today about how this week in 2012, I was getting ready to head off to Italy for my dad’s wedding. I have lovely memories from that trip. The first photo in this post, of the city rooftops. is taken from the film museum in Torino.
And below is a shot of the waterfalls in the mountains above my stepfamily’s summer cottage. Picture driving up into the most beautiful mountain range on a sunny day. Eating polenta with tomato sauce and cheese outdoors, with a vista over the valley, watching the shadows of the clouds race over the mountainsides. Hiking up into the foggy slopes and dipping your feet in the cold mountain water below the falls.
Maybe I should dig out more photos to share sometime. I haven’t been back since for many reasons, and I’m not sure I will. But the afternoons spent eating gelato and wandering around the small town, running into the ocean with my sister and friends on the Ligurian coast, and sitting on the rooftop up in the mountains, watching the clouds, are some of my favorite memories of my life.
