Hello friends! I hope you had a wonderful holiday with family and friends–whether virtual or in-person. I woke up feeling seriously under the weather today, so I’m just popping in to share a couple of photos from our Christmas before taking another nap (and hopefully a COVID test if I can get my hands on one).
Our morning started bright and early at 7am when the boys woke up. We had our usual breakfasts: Eric fasts, little E has oatmeal, baby has his bottle and I have something with eggs/veggies/fruit. I’d thought about making a coffee cake like my mom used to, but decided to keep it healthy given how many sweets we usually have around for Christmas anyways!
After breakfast, the boys opened their stockings and had fun playing with their cuddle+kind dolls and little E’s play silks while I tidied up the house.
My mom came over at 8 to exchange gifts. Little E opened a new Duplo set first and was pretty much taken by it for the entire hour 😛 Whilst baby was enthralled by all of the plastic packaging lying around.
Then we had all kinds of video calls… with my mom & sister, then my mom’s extended family, then my dad & sister, and after lunch and nap time with my in-laws. I was very tired by the end of this and took a little break to tidy up the house again. (Does anyone else find video calls exhausting?)
For dinner I made a real, slow-cooked risotto and we enjoyed a big plate of Christmas cookies for dessert!
Given the circumstances–everyone either out of town or uncomfortable gathering in person–Eric and I tried our hardest to put together a fun Christmas day, and I think we succeeded for the kids. Obviously we would have liked to have more grown-up company, but I think we’ll just have to find some friends to do a friends’ Christmas day with next year. Maybe some expat friends in another country… a girl can dream anyways!
Tell me about your Christmas 2021 in the comments!
xx Claire
