In our world today: it’s in the 30s, cloudy, and gross. I brought both kids to the park before lunch because little E was running circles around us in the living room. But the wind was so frigid I only lasted 15 minutes there!
On the plus side, Eric and I had the tastiest hot lunch after the kids went down for a nap. I topped two gluten-free everything bagels with some pesto (I just cleaned out the pantry a few days ago and found all sorts of treasures to use up) and sharp cheddar and broiled them for a few minutes. Helloooo heaven. And now that I have an open jar of pesto, I’ll just have to make pesto grilled cheese sandwiches tomorrow 😛 (And pesto grilled avocado for my dairy-free boy!)
I’m not feeling particularly inspirational today but I thought I’d just drop by with a chattier post as I left my Kindle across the house, and I can’t open our bedroom door without waking up little A. Little E can sleep through a thunderstorm, but little A wakes up if I breathe wrong lol.
Lately I’ve been dreaming up my ideal life and journaling more about it. I’ve always been quite an imaginative, daydreamy person, but for a long time I felt like I should outgrow that and be more of an “adult.” But really… age is nothing but a number, and recently I’ve decided I would rather stay mentally youthful and not give up dreaming.
Here are some of my dreams for my ideal life:
- Living in a temperate climate, near the seaside, in a small but modern rental with a little backyard and balcony
- Keeping my home clean on a weekly schedule so most places are regularly sparkling (let’s be honest… with little kids and a rather spacious house at the moment… that “clean home” feel is rare and temporary :P)
- Decluttering regularly, not storing things we’ll never use
- Living near a year-round farmer’s market that we shop at weekly (the best part of the Bay Area hands-down was the Mountain View Farmer’s Market… I still miss it!)
- Eating a diet of fresh local produce, fresh seafood and meats, whole grains, healthy fats and a few home-baked treats
- Living in a walkable suburb and walking to run errands! The dream!!
- Being able to take public transit to farther away places
- Being a one-car family
- Cooking and feeding my family healthy food every day (I mostly do this already and want to continue)
- Getting up before my family every day to enjoy alone time
- Enjoying dining al fresco often (hard to do when it’s 30F or under half the year, and boiling hot for another 4-5 months!)
- Exercising daily, walking and weight training or yoga some days
- Having a wardrobe of quality, flattering, functional pieces in “my colors” that I love to wear
- Homeschooling my kids at least when they are younger (if they don’t have educational needs beyond what I’m qualified to handle) and having a fun, not-incredibly-conservative community to do it with
- Having a wonderful, loving not-politically-polarized church and church family
- Having a great, trustworthy babysitter and going on monthly date nights with Eric!
This is just a selection… I’ve been writing a lot! I’ve had many of these dreams for a long time, but writing them out with as many specifics as possible makes them seem much more attainable. When I had a vague image in my head of how I wanted life to be, it was hard to find a place to start because it felt so far away! Now I have a list so I can choose a specific goal, break it down and accomplish it.
I’d love to know, what are some of your goals for your “ideal life”? In any category.
