Yesterday I didn’t get to touch anything blog-related as I was at the doctor with a migraine in the morning and after, tending to a baby who didn’t nap. Then all afternoon and evening we were on the edge of our seats following news from the Marshall Fire in Colorado, hoping it didn’t burn down homes of family.
It stopped just a couple of blocks short, extremely luckily. But it helped put this past year into perspective.
The other day I was trying to write a recap post of our 2021, but I gave up about six months in as it sounded too depressing. It has been a tough year for us and our family (and extended family, too) in several ways.
But you know what? We have a roof over our heads, food in our cupboard and our family’s physical health–and too many people, in Superior and other places, can’t say the same.
It’s easy to forget to be still sometimes and give thanks for the little things, whether it’s a comfortable bed to fall into at night, a wonderful marriage, healthy kids, or all of the wonderful people we’re blessed with in life (even if some relationships are less than perfect).
While our family has many goals and life changes we want to make in 2022, there is still so much to be grateful for in the present moment:
- healthy, thriving kids (that Babers especially is healthy and developing normally despite all the setbacks and his condition);
- each other–Eric has been my rock this past year and I’m so thankful to have a marriage where we can encourage each other in our goals, take on the hard days together and work towards a better life together;
- our cozy little house;
- financial security (this definitely hasn’t always been the case);
- faraway friends who help make the days lighter and brighter;
- the starting seeds of success in my freelance writing;
- and a good God who sees our struggles and carries us when we can’t go it alone.
From our little family to yours, Happy New Years!
xx Claire
