Oh hi! I’ve been under the weather this week, so yesterday and today have been full of cleaning all the sheets and towels in the house, making a bunch of comfort foods, making phone calls I’ve been putting off (the only thing there is to do whilst one is stuck in bed), and resting.
Today I thought I’d pop in with a quick post to share some of my favorite allergy-friendly (and easily-allergy-adaptable) cookbooks. Obviously, as a food blogger, I follow several food blogs–but I haven’t entirely given up old-fashioned cookbooks, either!
My Favorite Allergy-Friendly Cookbooks
- The Oh She Glows Cookbook: Tied for first place for my favorite cookbook! I follow the Oh She Glows blog, too, but her cookbook is really something special. It’s entirely vegan and almost all of the recipes are gluten-free, too.
- The New Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone: I’m not actually vegetarian or vegan–but this book is incredible. It has hundreds of recipes for every meal of the day, salads, side dishes, you name it. While the desserts and breads aren’t gluten-free, most of the other recipes work brilliantly with gluten-free substitutes. The pasta section is my favorite 😛
- Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook: This is basically an anthology of every basic cooking question you’ve ever had. Yes, we have the Internet now–but this is for when you need a fast, straightforward answer! Again, most of the vegetable sides and meals are either gluten-free or easily adaptable to GF. Definitely not the most innovative recipes but a lot of fast, easy, healthy meals for everyday.
- At Home in the Whole Food Kitchen: This is the most beautiful cookbook I own. I want to try cooking from it more, but I’ve tried some recipes and they’re all excellent and creative. Besides the baked goods, most of the recipes are entirely gluten-free (and there are some GF baked goods, too!).
- Gluten-Free Baking Classics: Finally… we get to the sugar! This is how I started out my gluten-free baking journey five or so years ago. Not incredibly healthy recipes… but if you don’t have time to take a chance on a new recipe, these ones work and are quite delicious. They have a coconut cake recipe that is to die for. (Maybe I’ll try my hand at a version that doesn’t have 100000% of my saturated fat for the day, ha!)
Other Resources
In terms of blogs, I tend to stick to a few favorites: Southern In-Law (she literally has every healthier, gluten-free variation on every baked good that you could ever imagine!) and Oh She Glows. Minimalist Baker, Healthy Liv and Ambitious Kitchen have some wonderful gluten-free recipes as well.
And if I can’t find what I want in my allergy-friendly cookbooks or on a favorite blog, I make my own recipe 🙂
