Sometimes I think back to when I started blogging in 2015 (on a blog that no longer exists, thankfully–I cringe when I think about some of the stuff I shared in college!).
It was quite a fun time to be blogging as it was a very popular hobby. I was involved in a couple of online blogging communities, the most well-known being Bloggers Gonna Blog. We were all posting various healthy dessert recipes (that usually involved flavored peanut butters for some reason??), sharing our young adult travel adventures, and occasionally writing about deeper things like mental health or relationships.
I was definitely a nobody in the blogging world–still am haha–but my blogging friends and I made the rounds to each other’s blogs a couple of times per week. We caught up on each other’s lives and shared bits of our own in the comments.
It was shallow camaraderie for the most part. I did make a few good faraway friends who I still message and video chat with to this day. But the real joy was in sharing a much-loved hobby with others. I realized that being part of a community of people who are all working on similar projects, towards similar goals, is incredibly fun and fulfilling. (Not being a particularly sporty or geeky person, I missed out on the fun of being on a sports or academic team growing up.)
All this to say, I miss it! And I miss the casual, unprofessional posts people used to share, too. So be the change you want to see, right? I’ve decided that I’m going to try to write here every day going forward–even if it’s just a short blurb about my day or whatnot. I might even create some blogging challenges for myself this year!
I’m also going to get back to “healthy living” posts for the most part, in addition to a bit of crunchy motherhood. (Well, as crunchy as you can be with a biology degree, as I say to Eric.) I picked that theme originally for my blogs–Gal in Bloom, My Pink & Green Life, and now Just to Claireify–because it really is a passion of mine that I enjoy sharing.
And anyways, what else am I going to do when I wake up at 5am and can’t get back to sleep? I can’t fumble around the house cooking and cleaning when the kids are still in bed. Might as well blog 🙂
Also, I’ve gotten this comment about my commenting system (Disqus) before–but you CAN comment as a guest! Just click the name box under “Sign up with Disqus” and a little form will appear. At the bottom, you can check “I’d rather post as a guest.” That way you don’t have to deal with any promotional emails/newsletters from Disqus.
