We spent last week at the cutest little lodge in Alberta, Canada for our honeymoon! Whilst I was a bad blogger and didn’t remember to take many interior pictures of the lodge–I thought I’d write a bit and share a few pictures since we enjoyed our stay so much.
Getting to Mount Engadine Lodge
We flew into Calgary International Airport early on Saturday afternoon, a direct flight from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul. (Since E made it to Delta Silver status due to his work travels last year, we even got upgraded to Comfort class–fancy! :P) When we arrived, we picked up our rental car and drove two hours west to get to the lodge.
We arrived at Mount Engadine around 5pm, just as afternoon tea was wrapping up. The receptionist showed us to our room and we decided to skip tea in favor of lounging.
Our room was the Moose Suite, and as I said–I was a bad blogger and forgot to take my own pictures! The Moose Suite is quite large, although it only has a queen bed and half bath. Most of the space is taken up by the lounge area: a gas stove, sofa, lounge chair, and reading nook. The suite also has a balcony with a view of the meadow and mountains.
Food at Mount Engadine Lodge
I’ll be posting a more detailed review of the restaurant later this week. Lodge guests are served a sit-down breakfast, afternoon tea, and three-course dinner every day. Mount Engadine also provides a daily packed lunch, so that guests who wish to spend the day outdoors can eat at their leisure.
Suffice it to say that the food is excellent and they are appropriately accommodating of food allergies and preferences!
Things to do at Mount Engadine Lodge
Free: The lodge has YakTrax and snowshoes (in multiple sizes) available for use for free. There are many hiking trails through the meadows and into the mountains that start at or near the lodge!
Paid: Mount Engadine will help connect guests with rental shops and winter experiences through other companies. These include cross-country ski rentals, dogsledding excursions, and helicopter tours of the mountains.
I’ll be honest… we went on a few short walks, but we spent most of our time sleeping, eating, reading, and relaxing! It was a rejuvenating trip since I didn’t feel as if I had to be doing something else. We’ve got a lot a going on right now with a new house, new puppy, and more. It was lovely to be able to do whatever I wanted to do–like read, plan for the blog, daydream about future travels, watch TV, and even take naps (!).
But tell me: Do you have any fun upcoming travel plans? Where’s your dream destination at the moment?
E and I picked our next destination during our honeymoon… Australia, in 2020! We want to visit Sydney, the nearby national parks, and take a short trip into the outback too. I’ve wanted to go for about five years now (since opting out of a college study abroad program due to the cost). It’s way too early to be planning our trip–but, I’m planning! ;P
