My sincere apologies for the long absence. I’m afraid I’ve had a serious case of the summertime blah’s (does anyone else hate hot weather? And this year we’ve got choking wildfire smoke to boot!). I’ve started so many post drafts but the words come to me like molasses, and I get frustrated and ditch the post before I’ve really gotten into it.
Anyways… I’ve challenged myself to start July off strong with an easy(ish) post to write: my June favorite things! So let’s chat lifestyle.
Favorite sanity-saver: Loop earplugs. A product I learned about from parenting influencers that’s actually worth the money! I have the “quiet” earplugs for overnight (much more comfortable than the cheap Amazon ones I used before) and the “engage” ones for when I’m feeling frazzled during the day. Both in pink, of course 😀
Favorite recipe: These butternut squash pancakes are so wholesome and so delicious! The toddlers love them too, and they’re a nice switch-up from our usual banana pancakes, which always remind me a tiny bit of my Blogilates dieting days 😛 2015 wellness influencers… if you know, you know. (I, at least, put a bit of cassava or oat flour in mine to make them less eggy.)
Favorite book: A toss-up between The Finnish Way, The Book of Boundaries and Courtiers. June was a good reading month!
Favorite pastime: Seeing how much we can do and how many needs we can fulfill without spending a cent. Library story time, bike rides in the neighborhood, and baking that uses up random things in our cabinet instead of going out for a treat. Scouring Buy Nothing for kids’ gear needs–this month I received a toddler snowpants/jacket set for this winter, for free! Being thoughtful with our spending feels rebellious in this consumerist world, and I am here for it.
Favorite adventure: We have done SO much stuff this month, and I’ve been a bad, bad blogger who hasn’t written a thing about it. With the kids–my favorites have been the Minnesota Zoo, our local aquatic center (best way to burn off steam on a Friday afternoon!) and the local nature center/nature play area. On my own–hands-down, getting an hour-long massage at Juut Edina. I hadn’t been to the spa in wayyy too long.
Looking forward to in July: Our 4th plans look as though they’ll be rained out! But on a more positive note: reading my huge collection of checked-out library books, working on home improvement, celebrating a birthday, and going out for our fifth anniversary 🙂
What’s one of your June favorites? Stay cool (or warm, for those down under) and we’ll chat again soon!
xx Claire
