Something that’s surprised me about the kids being back in school this year is how much more social interaction I am getting as a result. It almost feels like I enrolled myself in a part-time class on getting to know other parents, volunteering to bring x or y and participating in family events throughout the year.
It’s a positive change overall, since my first three-ish years of parenting were done essentially solo (thanks to the pandemic and us being the first of our friends to have kids). But I forgot how much energy it takes to be “on” that often! Thankfully we have a relaxing weekend planned to recharge.
Recipes lately: The kids and I made gluten-free lemon cookies this afternoon, which were such a hit! I baked half the batch and froze the other half to make some other time. This video on being prepared for last-minute guests got through to me, I guess 🙂
Thinking lately: About how it’s been exactly ten years since our New Student Week at Carleton. A friend texted me earlier this week to remind me. I guess I’m old enough now to feel like those years–partying, blogging, studying, my friends’ acapella concerts and comedy shows, working in the greenhouse, wearing Eric’s sweatpants everywhere–were simultaneously yesterday and an entire lifetime ago. Three lifetimes ago, actually (all three of our kids)!
Considering lately: To buy or not to buy these single serve baking dishes? I have been making Southern In-Law single serve recipes for years and just using muffin tins/various sizes of ramekins instead of proper individual baking dishes. It would be nice to have the real thing, though.
Listening to lately: Still enjoying Dopamine by the Arcadian Wild and also Fiona Ferris’ “Ralph Lauren vibes” playlist on Spotify. Lots of Adrian Von Ziegler because ’tis the season!
Weekend plans: Errands, apple picking, Sunday brunch with family. Hopefully getting outside a lot so the kids can blow off some steam.
Have a great weekend, friends!
xx Claire
