Another week, another cold… achoo… but let’s just skip to the fun parts of the week because I am SO tired of us all being sick. Summer, come quickly! (I am sitting beside a bag of cough drops, listening to the whirr of the humidifier, whilst in my bed at the moment.)
We did accomplish a lot last week anyways and I had some good chats with friends and family on the phone, which is the most you can ask for while trying not to spread the plague to everyone you know.
Reading lately: I finished Chic & Slim Encore and picked up More Hours in My Day again. I started reading it last year but abandoned it for a new Fiona Ferris book and never finished. It’s a nice, light read with some good homemaking tips for the frazzled mom.
House projects lately: Deep cleaning our fridge, finally hanging our gorgeous linen curtains that arrived from Poland (highly recommend Prolinen if you’re looking for sustainable linen curtains–excellent quality and so much cheaper than Pottery Barn/West Elm/etc), and giving away some things on Buy Nothing.
Eats lately: After feeling like nothing but juice and salty snacks for a couple of days, Eric made this beautiful frittata to take to brunch this morning and left me a slice for lunch. Mushrooms, scallions, and sharp cheddar, yum!
I’ve been paging through two cookbooks from my collection lately, The Baby & Toddler Food Cookbook and Decadent Gluten-Free Vegan Baking, and feeling inspired to make some new recipes this week. We’ll see!
Parenting lately: The boys have been going crazy with the cold weather, long weekend and not being to see people due to illness. We’ve been through the MagnaTiles, dollhouse stuff, puzzles, Hotwheels car ramp bin, kinetic sand and more. On the bright side, I did get the oldest signed up for a bunch of summer activities–and middle child wanted to try one week of camp as well–so hopefully we won’t be as bored when school gets out this summer!
Remembering lately: That we can appreciate beauty without wanting it for ourselves. Sometimes I see online photos of homes that are so quaint, cozy, and old-fashioned–and wonder why I don’t make my home look like that.
But at heart I’m a minimalist. I love neutral rugs, white furniture and clean lines with pops of bright color. I like how quick it is to take a dust cloth to our surfaces, because they aren’t crowded with stuff. I like the feeling of spaciousness from not crowding our rooms to the max.
And for my personal spaces in the home? My aesthetic could probably be described as #girlboss circa 2015 😛 Clean and white with pink touches. I love looking at pictures of vintage oak furniture, floral curtains, and ladies in flowy linen dresses, but that’s not what I want for my life.
This week’s plans: Not much, so I’m hoping to finish up some spring cleaning projects, get a head start on blog posts for the spring and book appointments. Does anyone else hate making phone calls with a passion? It’s the one area of life where I seriously procrastinate…
Happy Monday and have an excellent week, friends!
