Hi friends! It’s been a while. I took a much-needed break from social media and the blog around the holidays and I’m just getting back online now. It helps that it’s warmmm here lately (It’s going to be in the 40s this week :D) and that puts me in such a wonderful mood.
Since meteorologists started predicting a warm winter in the fall, I thought I was going to be quite miserable without the snow, ice and January sun–but I’m actually in love with the rain, fog, and milder temperatures. It’s like someone has lifted a cloud over me and everything feels lighter. Maybe I have SAD and didn’t realize it until now? But I could live in a climate like this forever and ever, alternating between warm, sunny summer and cool, rainy winter.
Anyways, let’s chat about the week that was!
New year’s resolutions lately: We have made good progress on the estate planning/will process (not because we’re planning on dying anytime soon… but with three kids, it’s good to have a plan in place in case something goes wrong). And on a lighter note, we made it out for a date night at The Good Earth last night! 1/12 months, check. My dad babysat and put the kids to bed.
Eric had a giant burger with chips and a slice of gluten-free spice cake for dessert… typical man food, haha. I went lighter with a cup of carrot ginger soup and potato gnocchi with butternut squash, mushrooms and red onions. Both were excellent 🙂
Projects lately: First up decluttering. We brought four grocery bags of stuff, an old easel, shower caddy and side table to Goodwill over the weekend and I set to work on our overflowing mail organizer. Wild how cluttered things get after the holidays and how much work it takes to lessen the inventory again!
Next up, finding things for e (I’m dropping the “little”–he wears size 6/7 now!) to do over the summer. So far we’re registered for a week of church camp and a two-week swim session, and I’m waiting for the community center to open their summer registration next week. e gets very bored without structured activities, we learned last summer, so I’m trying to fill our time without making it packed and stressful!
Favorite things lately: I enjoyed 100 Ways to Be a Chic Success and Create Your Dream Life, and the kids have been enjoying the Moomin books my sister brought back from the UK for Christmas. Moomin is actually a Swedish/Finnish character (my sister’s boyfriend is Finnish) and the books are so cute! I discovered they have a few of the stories at Target and picked up one each for the kids for Valentine’s Day.
I never used to be a Valentine’s Day person, and Eric and I still don’t really celebrate. But we like making paper hearts and giving a small gift to the kids.
Thinking lately: I need to check the forecast and see if there’s any more cold weather in February. If not, maybe we can start on our raised bed for the backyard early! And I can get a couple of things for my spring wardrobe!
Speaking of style, I was reading about 2024 trends and SO HAPPY to see that “millennial pink” is back in style this year 😛 I wanted pretty much everything I owned to be that color whilst in college–even my first two blogs had pink themes–and I just love how feminine it is! Apparently side parts, white dresses, big totes and bows are on trend now too. My inner teenage girl feels seen, lol. After a few years where everything has been boxy, gender-neutral and ugly, I am definitely going shopping this year!
Catch me up to speed on your life, though! Are you happy about the fashion trends this year?
xx Claire
