It’s that time of the year when I am full of inspiration, ideas, and energy. Seriously–trying to come up with blog post ideas over the summer was like trying to squeeze water from a stone, not that I was motivated to write anyways. But now? Blog post ideas! Freelance article ideas! Home improvement ideas! Now my problem is having too many things to work on.
Sometimes I say to Eric, “when it’s time to move somewhere warmer in the future… let’s move somewhere where it’s fall year round.” Everything from the temperature and breeze, to the fall colors, to the schoolday routine and fall festivities–it’s my season for sure.
In that spirit, I have lots to share with you this week, so let’s chat!
Reading recently: This week I blew through The Creative Family Manifesto in two days, and now I’m working on The Whole & Healthy Family. I love parenting books but I definitely need a break and some chic lit after this–so I’m thinking book #2 of the Shopaholic series is next on my list.
Cooking lately: Plenty of dinners that my kids hate apparently, so let’s not mention those. I did make a double batch of zucchini bread from my fall recipes list over the weekend and that was a hit! Also energy bites–the best easy snack to whip up post-afternoon school run.
Home improvement lately: We are still plugging away at getting up all the curtain rods and curtains in our house, which had zero window coverings when we moved in. More excitingly, we laid out our Ruggable over the weekend and I looove the look. The rug + pad are so comfortable underfoot as well.
Enjoying lately: I spent a couple of hours at the library last weekend brainstorming freelance content and writing a short submission for a magazine. I’ve realized that writing is truly what I enjoy and what I’m passionate about as a career, and I value these little snippets of time away from the kids to work. Whilst I love these baby/toddler years, I’m also looking forward to the future when I can take my writing into a part-time job from home.
It’s a reassuring feeling, to enjoy now and also know there’s something good around the corner. We all take different paths in life, and mine just happens to be that my kids inspired my career–not the usual career >> kids!
Goal lately: I’ve decided to put together a gallery wall in our basement using only free or thrifted pieces. So far I’ve collected a vintage watercolor etching and a Celtic illuminated lettering, both free (though one needs a new frame). I’ll definitely share when it’s done!
Weekend plans: Errands, outside time, another working hour or two at the library, making apple pies with my mom.
TGIF! What are you up to this weekend?
xx Claire
P.S. You’ll notice that I’m using an older title image for these posts lately. I’m slowly working on removing pictures of my kids’ faces from the blog, not that there were many to begin with. I’d love to get headshots done to submit with my freelance work and possibly use on JtC–buuut we’ll see when that gets done.
