When your toddler has the sniffles and says “[Girl in my preschool class’s name] was sick so now I’m sick”… you know you’re in for a long week. Thankfully we’re all on the mend now but it’s been a few days of apple juice, crackers, and long naps over here.
And I’m still ready for spring but it’s still not here yet! Hopefully soon! Let’s chat though.
Thinking lately: About how we can incorporate more traditional food preparation techniques into the things we eat daily. The farm we buy raw milk from, will finally have milk and cream for sale again. I would love to start visiting the farm and also try my hand at cultured butter and homemade yogurt again.
I’ve also noticed that our weekly homemade pizza tradition has been bothering my IBS lately so I’m wanting to experiment with traditional grains (like einkorn) and/or sourdough.
Reading lately: I’m between books at the moment. I have Rooted on hold at the library and also want to buy Old World Feast for some cooking inspiration.
Planning lately: Our spring and summer gardening and landscaping work. I want to keep it simple, so here’s our to-do list for this year:
- Plant some beautiful annuals in the window box thing-y (hard to describe haha) out the front
- My mom is going to split some of her hostas for our front garden bed
- Build a raised bed in the backyard and plant tomatoes, cucumbers and greens
- Aerate, feed and seed the lawn because I’m pretty sure it’s mostly dead
Still enjoying lately: My sort-of break from social media. I check in once a day or so, but since I have to use my laptop I’m really not on much. And I’m liking it. To be quite honest, it actually feels like a bit of a chore to check in some days–a pleasant shift from feeling bored without the 24/7 connectedness.
Looking forward to: A birthday brunch for family tomorrow! We’re bringing a gluten-free carrot cake and my mom is making her famous chocolate cake.
How has your week been? Weekend plans?
xx Claire
