Well, we did it! We moved house with two toddlers and a baby. We’re still getting settled and unpacked–how on earth do we still have so much stuff after all that decluttering last year?!–but it’s nice to be all snug and cozy in our new place whilst the wind howls and snow blows outside.
Let’s not talk about the weather, actually. I’m very salty that it’s halfway through March and there’s no signs of grass or warm weather soon. My kids need to run and I need some sunshine! Anyways, let’s chat.
Reading lately: I blew through 100 Ways to Enjoy Self-Care this week and now I’m reading A Hunter Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century. It’s heavier on the biology than I thought it would be but fascinating, especially since I’ve been feeling a little out-of-place in the world lately. I want to write more about that on the blog soon.
Baking lately: Pretty much every day. I’m trying to do more cooking from scratch lately–not that I already didn’t make a lot of stuff from scratch, but there’s real cost savings and health benefits there! Crazy expensive times we live in lately…
Last Friday I made quick and easy pizza dough for me and the kids (Eric had leftovers to finish). It worked so well! This week I’ve made banana baked oatmeal, apple cinnamon baked oatmeal, and healthy nutty granola for breakfasts. A family of five eats a lot I’ve realized, especially when you’re making it all from scratch–God bless me when the boys are teenagers 😛
Dismayed lately: To learn how much tech is used in our public schools these days, especially at the K-2 levels. Really? We need to create a whole generation of screen addicts starting at age 5? I’m looking into other options for little E next year (fall 2024 is when he’ll start kindergarten), especially local Montessori and Waldorf options. Maybe I’ll homeschool after all because I’ll be darned if I pay a zillion dollars in taxes just to have a screen babysit my child all day -_-
(And yes, I realize the above makes me sound like either a grouchy old conservative or a crunchy mom up in arms–which I am a bit of both at heart, if I’m being quite honest!)
Weekend plans: Some furniture assembly, trying my hand at a pot roast for the first time (big pieces of meat scare me, okay?), and a pancake/sledding adventure with family on Sunday.
Hope you’re doing well and I promise I’ll be back with real content soon, just as soon as our house isn’t stuffed with unpacked boxes. Tell me about your weekend plans in the comments!
xx Claire
