After three kids (and counting? 😛 I always have baby fever around the 2-3 months postpartum mark–hormones are so weird), I have my pregnancy and postpartum favorites down to a science. I’ve spent a lot of money on maternity/postpartum items over the years so I definitely know my way around the shops!
So if I was shopping for a loved one who was pregnant or had a new baby this year–this is what I’d consider getting her. New mamas deserve to be pampered and I would consider most of these brands/items to be the perfect balance between indulgent and functional.
And they’re not baby items 🙂 which although they’re lovely to receive, sometimes it’s really nice to get something just for you in that stage of life!
Clothing
Kindred Bravely loungewear & pajamas:Â Their maternity lounge shorts and bamboo nursing pajamas are buttery-soft, hold up to washing (mine have been washed about a thousand times and still look like new) and are very functional. I didn’t buy real nursing pajamas until kid #3 but now I couldn’t live without them!
Auden nursing bras & tops:Â A brand that’s a bit easier on the budget than the above… I wear these camis and bras pretty much exclusively while breastfeeding. Mostly because 1) the fabric is comfy and 2) the soft cups are sewn in so you don’t have to mess with them rolling up/popping out in the wash (why aren’t more clothes like that?)!
Seraphine Maternity giftcard:Â This lovely online boutique is my go-to for stylish maternity and nursing clothing. It was a favorite of Kate Middleton (!) so you know it’s good! Their stuff is on the pricier side for sure but SO worth it. I’ve been eyeing this dress lately for a good nursing-friendly church option.
Body care
Earth Mama Organics lotions, balms, etc:Â Their belly butter is my absolute favorite–it’s citrus-scented and super refreshing–and their other products (like baby wash and deodorant) are great too.
Sunfolk Apothecary products: I’ve definitely mentioned my love for this brand on the blog before–everything is squeaky clean from an ingredients standpoint and their skincare products are incredibly effective and indulgent.
Under Luna shampoo & conditioner:Â The best clean, holistic haircare out there in my opinion (and I have tried many). You want to feel good about what you’re putting on/in your body while pregnant and this checks all the boxes–plus, importantly, it works!
Health & Wellness
The best pregnancy body pillow: This is it–the pillow for a good night’s sleep while pregnant! I honestly do not know how I lasted two pregnancies without it. I got so much sleep the third time around with proper back and belly support, thanks mostly to the Back ‘N Belly pillow.
Giftcard for a local chiropractor or massage:Â For those of us with scoliosis/chronic back pain, pregnancy can be a rough time, especially in the third trimester. My chiro care and massage at SUNU Wellness in Linden Hills were the only things that helped. If you’re in the market for a bigger gift, an appointment or two at a reputable local wellness clinic (read: not some dodgy back-alley practitioner!) would be a fantastic gift.
Red raspberry leaf tea:Â If you’re gifting to a crunchy mama who’s planning a crunchier birth, she’ll need a nice supply of this for the last few weeks of pregnancy. Earth Mama and Traditional Medicinals are two brands who stock organic red raspberry leaf tea!
The First Forty Days book: Disclaimer–I don’t actually own this book but would love to read it if/when we’re fortunate enough to have a fourth! It’s all about supporting a new mom nutritionally in the immediate postpartum period.
So there you have it, another gift guide with my best ideas for pregnant and postpartum moms. Sure, buy some onesies or cute teethers for baby; but don’t forget about moms this holiday season either! 🙂
