Earlier this year I shared my favorite books from the first half of the year. Amazingly, I’m nearly finished with book #34 of 2022… so now that 2022 is nearly over, there’s definitely more to share from my reading list favorites.
My library card and old kindle (given to me in 2015, how much longer do you think it will last? :P) have both gotten quite the workout this year! Reading is a main form of self-care and an escape for me. I generally don’t watch TV as I’m a very sensitive person and most shows leave me feeling “off” emotionally, so if I’m going to escape it’s going to be into a book or the archives of a favorite blog.
(Tell me I’m not the only one who’s weird about TV, haha? I genuinely don’t enjoy most shows or movies, and it has nothing to do with limiting screen time.)
Anyways, onto the books!
- The Danish Way of Parenting: What the Happiest People in the World Know About Raising Confident, Capable Kids, by Jessica Joelle Alexander and Iben Dissing Sandahl
- Simply Living Well: A Guide to Creating a Natural, Low-Waste Home, by Julia Watkins
- Home Economics: Vintage Advice and Practical Science for the 21st Century, by Jennifer McKnight-Trontz
- Grumpy Mom Takes a Holiday: Say Goodbye to Stressed, Tired, and Anxious, and Say Hello to Renewed Joy in Motherhood, by Valerie Woerner
- How to Be Chic in the Winter, by Fiona Ferris
Parenting, homemaking and self-care–pretty typical reading themes for me. I like reading itself to feel like self-care, and whenever I veer to far into the bestsellers or classics list, things start to feel too heavy and not fun.
Why is grown-up literature such a drag, with no happy endings whatsoever? Just an aside! If I want dull, dreary, and depressing, I can just check CNN or the Strib… there’s enough of that in the world these days.
I have a few books I’m looking forward to reading in 2023 so far, including:
- Courtiers: Intrigue, Ambition, and the Power Players Behind the House of Windsor, by Valentine Low (it’s not available here on Kindle yet, and yes I am a big fan of the British Royals! I don’t think I’ve mentioned that little tidbit about myself on here before :P)
- An Ordinary Age: Finding Your Way in a World That Expects Exceptional, by Rainesford Stauffer–I found this article of hers online when we were returning from our failed move last month and I was hooked. It’s an incredible article and I highly recommend it! I’m all about bringing to light the dark side of the gifted child/millennial narcissism matrix, as I like to call it.
- The Chic Closet: Inspired ideas to develop your personal style, fall in love with your wardrobe, and bring back the joy of dressing yourself, by Fiona Ferris. As I get older, I realize how important it is to furnish your home and dress yourself in a way that isn’t just functional but that brings you joy and reflects your values–so I’m looking forward to this take on style by one of my favorite authors.
What book(s) did YOU read in 2022 that you think others should pick up? Please share in the comments!
