The big day is under eight weeks away, so here’s my last wedding planning update! (Here are my one year out update and 4.5 months out update if you’re curious.) We did a lot to prepare this past weekend and I’m feeling good about it, so now seemed like a good time to write a post :)… Read More »
Is Eating Tuna Bad for the Environment?
This is one of the food industry topics that I have been asked to write about on the blog. Tuna is a popular fish choice for many people due to its cost and relatively mild flavor. Because of this, I thought that it was a great suggestion and I want to cover it in detail, like I did with shrimp a few weeks ago.
Note: When you Google search “Is eating tuna bad for the environment?”, all of the suggested searches are about how much tuna can be consumed per week due to the accumulation of heavy metals (such as mercury) in its tissues. This post will not deal with health ramifications of eating tuna, although it is a valid concern. Instead, I would like to talk about the environmental issues associated with tuna fishing.… Read More »
Call Me Weird, But I Hate Hot Weather

This is random, but then again, so are most things I post on my blog these days. But does anyone else actually NOT like the heat? It’s hit 90 for the past couple of days here and I am miserable. Anything over 75 is pretty much too hot for me.
While I can’t get enough of cold, ice, and snow–you’ll find me out for a walk every day, bundled up appropriately of course–I have been practically hidden inside since this heat wave hit. Some people in the winter carefully chart the shortest courses from their house, to their car, to work, to the store, back home again for the evening. They spend as little time outside as possible in cold. That’s me, but in the summer.… Read More »
Simplifying My Online Presence: Update Part 1
It’s been a little while since I wrote about simplifying my online presence for the first time and since I reflected on what Facebook “friends” are and why we have so many. (Also, I just noticed that Disqus has eaten all of the comments on that second post–what a shame! People had some great points to make about the pros and cons of Facebook. I promise I didn’t delete all of your lovely comments <3)
Since then I’ve accomplished a few more things on my digital minimizing to-do list, including a big one this weekend.… Read More »
Christian Finance 101: Learning to Be Good Stewards
Earlier this year, we attended a pre-marriage finance seminar at my church. We all arrived with dark circles under our eyes, yawning, at 8:30 on Saturday morning for four hours of money talk. But despite the fact that we were exhausted from the previous day’s travel and marriage mentor dinner, I got so much out of that talk.
I don’t talk much about my faith on the blog, but I’d like to start talking about it more. Obviously being a Christian influences so much about how I see the world and make decisions. The finance seminar introduced me to a new perspective on money that I’d never considered before. It helped me to look at money not as something that reflects our worth, but as ultimately coming from and belonging to God. … Read More »
