Goodbye, March! I hope you and yours have fun plans for Easter weekend and the impending warm weather. We’re planning our garden, gearing up for family in town and spring sports. The zoo will have baby animals at their farm soon and our pool pass is purchased for summer!

In defense of cheap or “junky” Easter basket fillers, I loved getting that type of gift in my baskets growing up. Light-up pens, scented erasers, keychains, tiny notepads, rubber balls, etc. My sister and I were hyper-organized kids who appreciated all those little treats and used them up.
My children? They’ve barely met a plastic toy they haven’t broken within a month. Tiny things get lost underneath the sofa, in the car or washing machine. They’re not trying to be destructive, but they play hard and it shows with cheap toys. Then they’re sad when something is broken beyond repair and needs to be tossed. It’s almosttt growing season here and my mouth waters at the thought of fresh, local produce! My kids have been asking for sweet corn (sorry guys–that’s a few months away) and I’d pay a pretty penny for a quart of fresh strawberries at the moment… the white/pink California counterfeits are just not the same.
It’s slim pickings at the grocery store right now. But, we’ve been cooking up some delicious meals and snacks anyways with odds and ends from our cupboard and freezer. There are buds on the trees, the sun is warm, and the birds are singing. I feel insanely lucky that we skipped the toughest part of winter this year and went straight into another warm season. It’s probably not a good sign for the climate, but even knowing that, my mood is so lifted by the weather.
