If you follow me on Instagram, you probably noticed that we took a sudden, six-day-long road trip across the country last week. Surprise… we’re back in Minnesota, permanently this time! I couldn’t tell you until now because of reasons related to Eric’s work, but everything’s finally ironed out. We’re currently at my mom’s house and moving into our new apartment this weekend.… Read More »
Why You Should Prioritize Investing in Yourself
When I was a tender eight years old–and had already been saving my weekly allowances for three years–my mom took me to the bank to open my first savings account. The banker must have had to force back a laugh when I self-importantly opened my change purse and pulled out $63 in $1 bills! (My mom had helped me convert my quarters into bills earlier that week.)
Every since I was little, I was what some might call an extreme saver. It was incredibly difficult for me to justify spending money on anything for myself that isn’t objectively necessary (think food, shampoo, a winter coat, etc). This was fine when I was younger and my parents paid for most of my expenses anyways. But now that I’m older and financially independent from my parents, I’ve had to rethink my views on money and necessity, and more broadly investing in myself.… Read More »
Wedding Update: 4.5 Months to Go!
Oh… hi! I’m, uh, back? And want to write about wedding stuff even though I said I didn’t want to do that anymore? I realized that I really enjoyed writing about our planning process and missed it so I wanted to drop in with an update. I also scrubbed my old wedding posts of names and made them public again, so there’s that. If you want to read freely about how E and I met, how we found my engagement ring, my wedding dress shopping or anything else, you can do that now 🙂
So, I can’t tell you much yet, but this time next month, life is going to look a lot different. We’re making a huge life change just four months out from our wedding. I’m over-the-moon excited, nervous, and pretty stressed out about it, all at the same time. There’s so much work to do! (For the record, I AM NOT PREGNANT. No, no, no, heck no. No buns in the oven for a few years, sorry!) I can’t wait to let you in on the secret, but that will have to wait for a couple of weeks from now.
I’ve always have a hard time blogging when there’s a big part of my life that I have to hold back. It feels as though I’m being dishonest, almost? But that’s silly–this is my blog, not my journal. Long story short: wedding stuff!… Read More »
I Don’t Want to Be More Productive
Being able to say that you’re busy is a great source of pride in this day and age. I can’t begin to count the number of blog posts I’ve read in the past year that start off with something along the lines of, “Another crazyyy busy week here in the Smith household! I worked 120 hours on my business, secured 87 new sponsorships that I am SO excited to share with y’all, read 25 novels and ran a marathon yesterday! How’s this week treated you?”
Of course, I have been so guilty of that myself. Not as much on JTC (I’d like to think), but definitely on my previous blogs while still in college. “Today I took three exams, cranked out a five-page paper, called both my parents, went out for dinner with E, and made it to the gym, too!” Cringe.… Read More »
