Just to clarify (hehe), this post is NOT sponsored by Knickey. I’m simply sharing a new-to-me product that I’ve tried and want to review for you!
Update 10/2023: My underwear purchased for this review is still going strong 18 months later. It basically looks like new! No holes, fraying, or stretched out elastic… Knickey is definitely a high-quality brand.
Last year, I decided to update my wardrobe for my new mom life. I sold or donated most of the things I bought in high school or college, and I’m in the process of rebuilding my wardrobe and refining my style to fit a 27-year-old mom of two.
However, while focusing on finding tops, jeans, dresses, etc. that I love–for a while I kind of forgot about the most essential wardrobe item: underwear. And yes, my Modest Millie self is totally cringing that I’m actually writing about this–but I think it will be helpful to anyone out there who finds themself in a similar, underwear-less situation.
My intimates drawer was filled with hole-y stuff from high school, some newer things that didn’t fit quite right, and some totally uncomfortable things that didn’t fit at all. It was definitely time for an underwear drawer reboot.
I knew that I wanted an upgrade from the cheap underwear I used to buy at Target. Originally, I wanted to try PACT Organic, but they were completely sold out in my size. So I got to Googling and discovered Knickey.
They’re made with organic cotton (which is important since conventional cotton farm involves a huge amount of pesticide use) and a bit of elastane for stretch. Sustainable, comfortable, and highly rated–what’s not to love? Really just the price tag (they’re $16/pair!) but I decided to give their Starter Box a go anyways.
Starter Box Knickey Underwear Review
The Low-Rise Thong: Very comfortable (for a thong anyways :P) but they ran a little big–I ordered M in everything, but I should have gone for a small or even XS in these.
The Low-Rise Bikini: My favorite pair! They’re a perfect fit and so comfortable. This is usually my preferred style of underwear and these were a serious upgrade from my Hanes stuff from Target, haha.
The Mid-Rise Hipster: Again, a perfect fit and debatably more comfortable than the Bikini, but not flattering on me. I have a slim/athletic build and these make my hips look super boxy. They work well under high rise pants as they have a bit more coverage than the Bikini, but still… you want to feel cute in your underwear!
The Mid-Rise Brief: Good fit, not flattering similar to above. These have the advantage of a lower cut on your bottom so they’re barely noticeable under leggings!
The High-Rise Brief: Good fit, decent look, but I probably won’t wear them much as I don’t a ton of super high-rise pants. They’re not quite as comfortable as the mid-rise pairs because they cut off SO high on my waist (I feel like they almost go up to my ribcage haha). The coverage makes them perfect for wearing under a dress though, if you’re not the type to wear athletic shorts under a skirt.
My Overall Thoughts
I was really impressed by the quality, fit and comfort of Knickey underwear–enough to review it on the blog! I’ll definitely be ordering more of my favorite styles (the thong, bikini and possible some mid-rise pairs just because it’s so darn comfortable haha).
They’re expensive, but because I find myself reaching for them whenever they’re in the dresser, they’re definitely worth the expense.
Shopping for the perfect underwear was far less exciting than shopping for clothes the world actually sees, but the basics are important for quality of life! Now I’m on the hunt for the perfect bras after several failures… so hopefully I’ll have a review there for you soon.
xx Claire
P.S. I’d love to know a new/favorite clothing brand of yours lately, for any type of clothes! Share in the comments if you have one.
