Last week I wrote about doing hair & makeup on our wedding morning, so this week it’s time for everybody’s favorite topic: the dress! I wrote about wedding dress shopping with my mom and sister last fall but didn’t drop many hints as to what it looked like. So, I think it’s only fair that I share some pictures now 🙂
The Dress
In my dress shopping post, I hinted that one particular feature of my dress–that was a must for me–isn’t too popular right now. Now I’ll tell you what it is: non-sheer sleeves! (I couldn’t have a dress with sheer material because I’m so pale, and sheer fabric is all so tan, that it just looked odd.) This was my inspiration dress, that isn’t sold in the US. I had the worst time finding a store that stocked anything like it. Luckily, the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul came to my rescue with a selection of several sleeved dresses!
I ended up buying the second dress I tried on, the Maggie Sottero McKenzie dress. It was so, so comfortable! And while it didn’t have the same neckline as my dream dress, it did have a beautiful low-cut back that was perfect for hot summer weather. I was also obsessed with the train. We ordered it that day! I had few alterations done at A Stitch Above The Rest in St. Paul. They did an excellent job taking in the top and waistline of the dress and adding a bit more structure. They’re pricey but worth it!
On our wedding day, I got dressed in a bedroom. Then our photographer took a few pictures of my mom and I (her buttoning the dress and such).
The Accessories
I went with flats for my shoes, the Lucy Flat from Blue by Betsey Johnson (in the blush satin color). They were so reasonably priced and so comfy. Even though I forgot to break them in before that day, I didn’t get any blisters. And I didn’t have to worry about tripping down the aisle in heels!
The only jewelry that I wore, aside from my engagement ring, was earrings. I wore the same earrings that I wore on E and my first date, made for me by a friend from college. In my second piercings, I wore plain cubic zirconium studs.
Finally, I carried a Nine West wristlet like the ones I got for my bridesmaids. Like theirs, I bought mine on ThredUp on final sale for $12! My sister packed a separate emergency kit with makeup/Tide Pens/other useful things, so all I needed to carry for myself was my phone and ID.
After one minor bridesmaid dress emergency (quickly fixed with bobby pins), it was time to head to church! I can’t wait to share those pictures with you. Our ceremony was everything I could have wished for.
