If that’s not a throwback title, I don’t know what is 😛 #bloggersgonnablog #ifyouknowyouknow
Lately I’m enjoying Instagrammers and bloggers who are posting old school stuff… simple unfiltered snippets of days in their lives, random thoughts and really just anything that’s “in the moment.” I don’t want to see a synopsis of your child’s NICU journey in 30 seconds with inspiring background music or “useful” content that’s 10 slides long (with the last slide selling your book/product/whatever). Or sponsored content on blogs that’s just one long ad with no personal touches.
I’m craving real, authentic connection. And since I don’t have much time for social media/blogs anyways, I’ve become pretty ruthless about paring down what I consume!
Anyways–back to this post. I’m taking things old school for the day and sharing my meals and snacks from yesterday! I’m always curious about what other people eat, so here’s a peek into my life for you 🙂
What I Ate Wednesday (Really Tuesday)
Breakfast:Â I wasn’t very hungry when I woke up, so I had a butternut banana blender muffin (so good) with some plain whole milk yogurt. As usual, I had a cup of decaf with a couple tablespoons each of heavy cream and whole milk after my food.
Morning snack:Â A couple squares of 85% dark chocolate with salted cashews, a banana and a cup of chicken bone broth warmed up.
Lunch:Â Two eggs scrambled with cherry tomatoes, zucchini, ham and sharp cheddar + a slice of gluten-free toast with mashed avocado. Since Baby K has started taking one long nap after we get home from preschool pickup, I have more time to prep hot lunches like this! I usually prepare some for Eric, too, and Little A has whatever goes in the eggs, as he’s not a fan of eggs, and some easy sides. Today those were apple slices and crackers.
After lunch and getting the toddler down for his nap, I was still hungry and had a hot chocolate. Cacao, raw honey, whole milk + a splash of vanilla. (Are you sensing a theme here? It’s hot drink season!)
Afternoon snack:Â Nothing as we had dinner so early!
Dinner:Â We had an extremely early dinner–we call it “Norwegian dinner,” haha–because the kids’ preschool open house started at 5:30. Brown sugar chicken and parmesan mashed potatoes (leftover from the weekend) plus steamed broccoli and greens.
Bedtime snack:Â A blender muffin with almond butter after the kids were in bed. Then seed crackers with hummus, half an apple and a bit more chocolate with nuts and raisins later.
A Note on WIAW
The thing that ruined the old What I Ate Wednesday linkup was that it got too perfect over time. Everything became very staged, the most beautiful salads/balanced plates/expensive protein bars etc. We all have different priorities, available time/money to prepare food, and restrictions or preferences–so please don’t compare your diet to mine. And I certainly don’t eat gorgeous salads, exotic fruits or pricey protein foods on a daily basis!
On the other hand, I’m not on a sugar-free/paleo/low-fat/etc diet either. I don’t count calories, I lead an active lifestyle caring for my kids–in addition to walking about 3 miles round-trip to and from preschool, pushing a stroller, three days a week–and I eat chocolate in some form at least once a day. So what works for me might not work for you, and that’s ok.
What’s a delicious meal you’ve eaten recently–whether it was pretty or not?
xx Claire
